After the City of New York allocated a $3 million budget to enhance public outdoor spaces at New York Housing Authority’s Jefferson Houses. Asia Initiatives joined a design team with the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The project team worked with NYCHA’s Design Department and Resident Engagement staff to develop a community engagement process to imagine the future of the public spaces at the Jefferson Houses. The goal of this work is to provide a replicable community engagement model which inspires volunteer design teams to intersect with NYCHA CPD teams to work on discrete, capital improvement projects like this one, and to inversely develop a model for NYCHA to engage with volunteer design teams.
